Description Lots Road Development, London
Challenge Supply of additional formwork equipment for construction of a new multi-use development

Hünnebeck's (Formerly Harsco Infrastructure) ability to work in close partnership with its customers has brought benefits to the creation of a major new mixed-use development in London. Hünnebeck has worked alongside specialist concrete contractor PJ Carey, providing a variety of formwork support equipment and technical advice for the construction of the new development on Lots Road site in Chelsea adjacent to Power Station.

Hünnebeck's GASS® support system, Du-Al™ beams, TOPEC® soffit formwork panels, Logik® 60 wall formwork and Logik® 360 circular formwork equipment were all used on the project, which will provide over 800 new homes and 78,000 sq ft of commercial space. "This is one of a number of projects where we have worked very closely with P J Carey," says Hünnebeck's Account Manager Stuart McClagish. "They have quantities of their own GASS®, Du-Al™ and TOPEC® equipment, and so our role on this project has been to supplement that with extra quantities as required, and also to supply our Logik® panel formwork."

The development will include a large quantity of basement car parking, for which Hünnebeck has already supplied a range of formwork equipment. Logik® 360 circular systemised panel formwork was used to create the curved retaining wall for the vehicle access ramp. Logik® 360 has very few components and offers a very flexible way to construct this type of wall quickly and easily. The car park supporting columns have been constructed using Harsco's Logik® 60 wall forming system, which clamps the panels together using Harsco's unique Aligning, Levelling and Locking clamps to speed the construction process. Logik® 60 also offers special striking corner components which aid the striking process when forming concrete cores for lift shafts and stairwells.

The ground floor deck over the car park has also been constructed using Hünnebeck's Topec® modular slab formwork panels. Having only two basic component parts, Topec® makes the shuttering and stripping of slabs easier and faster than a conventional alternative. A comprehensive range of panel sizes and useful accessories make Topec® an extremely flexible system for a project such as Lots Road. The Topec® panels have been supported on a combination of Europrops and Hünnebeck's GASS® aluminium shoring system. This arrangement has allowed the decks to be constructed to accommodate the large number of downstand beams and ceiling height variations which the building includes.

"We have worked closely with Hünnebeck to create the most effective, safe and versatile solution for Lots Road. Having a supplier who has considerable industry expertise and who also works hard to satisfy our particular requirements brings many benefits on a complex project such as this."  Pierre DeVilliers, Senior Project Manager, P.J. Carey Ltd.

The Lots Road site – which is being developed by Circadian - is located on the north bank of the River Thames. When complete, there will be a variety of buildings on the site, ranging from the converted power station, to two new glazed towers that will sit each side of a Creek which divides the site.
