Challenge Design and supply of formwork and shoring for development of apartments building

A high-profile new development of residential and hotel accommodation on the seafront in Worthing has been constructed using a variety of access and shoring equipment provided by Hünnebeck (Formerly Harsco Infrastructure). Hünnebeck worked in close collaboration with specialist contractor Westbrooke Developments Ltd to create the new development, which now includes 49 state-of-the-art apartments, penthouses and a hotel.

"We understand their requirements and working methods and that brought benefits for both parties."

Hünnebeckprovided a variety of equipment for the seven storey building, which also features basement car parking. Hünnebeck’s Topec® formwork panels were used extensively on this project helping to create the floor slabs. Topec® is designed to help make the shuttering and stripping of slabs much faster and more economical than conventional slab formwork by having just two main components - panels and props. Panels up to 1.8 x 1.8 m can be installed and struck by just three people working at ground level - something which paid particular benefits for this project.

The Topec® panels were supported on Europrops in the central areas, while Hünnebeck’s GASS® support system and Du-AlTM beams were used on infill sections around the perimeter areas. The lightweight GASS® aluminium system requires a minimal number of components. This makes it quick and easy to erect as proven on many different types of construction projects. Hünnebeck's lightweight DU-AL™ aluminium beams can be used to create a wide variety of beam configurations for formwork, falsework and soffit support applications.

"On this project, using the GASS® and Du-Al™ equipment allowed the Topec® panels to cantilever out beyond the slab line and provide additional access," adds Karol Mikowski. "We also used Hünnebeck's Extraguard™ edge protection system to ensure the highest level of safety for those people working at height." Designed to provide maximum protection against falls from height, Extraguard™ uses a combination of patented clamping devices and supporting posts with full triple-wire mesh panels to protect on-site personnel.
