Challenge Providing an independent support system for the arch and bridge deck

Hünnebeck's (Formerly Harsco Infrastructure) GASS® system, was employed for the construction of a 53 m wide 24 m high concrete bridge arch, the first time the product has been used for this type of structure. It is providing an independent support system for the arch and bridge deck.

The project created a new 120 m wide four span bridge providing a link between the local communities and a new retail park. The GASS® system was built up from the valley floor, supporting DU-AL aluminium beams and MKII Soldiers for the construction of the arch. The concrete was poured in stages, with side and top shutters to ensure that the required angle of construction was achieved.

The Hochteif Griffiths team were impressed with the speed the falsework structure was able to be erected, leading to time and cost savings. Following the success of this phase of the bridge, Hünnebeck secured the next package: the supply of formwork for the cantilevered edges of the main bridge deck. Here, the company has employed its MULTIFORM parapet brackets, designed to provide a quick and safe cantilever formwork.
